Buying new furniture? Do you ask about sustainability, durability and multi-functionality?

by Ajeet J 30 May 2024

I moved into our new house last year. As a DIY enthusiast, I have learnt that when I make plant stands and furniture, I give a lot of importance to how long and how it gets used by me and others. Sometimes it gets used a lot and lives it’s designed life, sometimes it outlives it and largely so when its durable and it has an innate multi-functionality designed into it. As a maker, the latter is important to me and excites me when I am able to configure a product in different ways to suit my needs or to sometimes even bring new purpose to it.

I come from a family where old things are rarely scrapped. Products are used  , repurposed and repaired until they get completely dis-functional. Stories of the glorified past of such products get discussed when they get decommissioned and new products bring new stories along with them. In my view these are mini stories of sustainability in products!

The same sentiment has led to designs of re-configurable, multifunctional beautiful mesh products in the form of Grandis, Marmelos and many more to come.

While looking out for fresh new ideas in plant organizers and decorative shelves segment, we were surprised to see that the products on offer were highly specific for certain applications. Some of the plant organizers were highly limiting because of the pot size and shape. Plant stand shapes were sometimes more ornamental, sometimes trying to mimic the everyday objects like cycles and sometimes just elevating the pots. Some of these products may fit specific scenarios but for someone like me who expects more, these regular plant stands appeared as the static structures which will occupy my precious real estate performing only one job.

The questions that always come to my mind are-

What if I get new plants? Will I be able to expand this stand?

Can I easily change the look of my arrangement? shift the stands from inside my home to outside?

What if someday I don’t have enough plants to keep? Can I use these shelves or stands for some other purpose?

Meshable Products:

While we’re on the topic of plant stands and wall shelves, it’s worth mentioning Meshable products. Meshable plant stands are made of galvanized wires which are zinc coated and then finished with powder coating of attractive colors. This coating gives them a rust free life in years.  And, as modular and multifunctional products, they offer a number of benefits beyond just displaying your products. Additionally, Meshable products come in different sizes and can be arranged in a variety of configurations, allowing for maximum versatility.

 Conclusion:

Whether you’re looking for a way to free up floor space, store your gardening tools, or simply add some greenery to your home, Meshable plant stands are an excellent choice. And, with the added benefit of multifunctionality, reconfigurability, they can be sustainable investments that can serve you well for years to come.
